Sundown Motel by Simone St. James

This Book of the Month selection is a ghost story/murder mystery. I found it good but not compelling. The mystery is a bit predictable, and the ghosts are OK but not especially creepy. So it's not great but nonetheless good enough to be worth reading.

Don't expect the horrifying ghosts of M.R. James in Bierce's writing; Bierce is more about moral horror.
